Laming in Murray
June 27, 2012
Federal Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Health Services and Indigenous Health, Andrew Laming will be joining Dr Sharman Stone in the Murray Electorate next Monday, the 2nd of July. Two forums will be conducted on the Coalition’s future Regional and Indigenous Health Policies.
The first forum will be in Shepparton at 10.30am, and will be held at the Rural Health Academic Centre in Graham Street.
The second forum will be in Echuca on Monday afternoon from 2.30pm at the Echuca Regional Health Education Centre in Leichhardt Street.
The public is welcome to come along to these forums.
“We will be looking at a range of issues, including funding, rural zoning, workforce needs, Medicare Locals and other policy changes” Dr Stone said.
“There are many challenges facing Regional and Indigenous Health. For example, cutting practice incentives payments from this weekend will create some problems. Some clinics will lose their after-hours funding, putting a t risk some after-hours services in the region.
“Regional and Rural towns often struggle to attract doctors and other allied health professionals. But country people should have good access to health services.
“Rumbalara and Njernda Health Services are also some of Australia’s biggest indigenous health service providers. Andrew Laming is keen to talk to them” Dr Stone said.
