Federal Member for Murray, Dr Sharman Stone says we have grown by nearly 4,000 people over the last 6 years in the electorate of Murray. The electorate is also getting marginally older. The median age for Murray is now 41. It was 39 in 2006. Nationwide, it is 37.
 
“There are some interesting figures and trends in the 2011 Census data. While some things have changed, others have remained much the same” Sharman Stone said.
There are currently 130,079 people living in the electorate of Murray. That’s an increase of 3,964 since 2006.
 
Like the rest of Australia, there are more females than males. We have 65,622 females and 64,457males.
 
Most people in the electorate are married, 51.8%, a drop from 53.9% in 2006. Never married people were the next biggest category, 29.2%.
 
There are 34,455 families. The average number of children per family is 2, nationally it is 1.9. The average number of people living in Murray households is 2.5, the same as in 2006.
 
Most children, 35.9%, attend Government schools for both Primary and Secondary.
 
The median weekly household income is $900 per week, which is $100 per week higher than in 2006. For the nation, it is $1,234.
 
The median monthly mortgage repayments are $1300, while median weekly rents are $175.
 
The average number of motor vehicles per dwelling in Murray is 1.9.
 
84% of people in Murray were born in Australia. This is down from 85.5% in 2006. 1.7% were born in England and 1.1% in both Italy and New Zealand. 76.8% of people had both parents born in Australia, slightly more than Victoria wide, 73.8%.
 
27.1% of Murray residents said they were Catholic, while 20.5% said they had no religion. Anglican was third on 17.1%.
 
The most popular language spoken in Murray after English is Italian 1.8%, then Arabic 1%.
